Nuclear Medicine
The Nuclear Medicine Department produces images with computer equipment a nd a gamma camera. The gamma camera does not emit radiation but collects it. Patients are injected with a radioactive material prior to imaging which is emitted and detected by the camera. The radioactive materials are tagged to various substances which are metabolized by the body. This causes the radioactive substances to collect in the organs of interest. These materials decay rapidly, resulting in a small radiation dose. Nuclear Medicine is also joined with the Stress Lab. The Stress Lab is responsible for stress test, tilt table test, Holter monitors, and cardiac event recorders.
