Welcoming Our Patients

Whatever your reason for coming to us, we welcome you, and promise to provide the best care we can during your stay. To make your stay as comfortable as possible, here is some important information for you to know.

Admission

When you are admitted, you will be asked a number of questions by our admissions staff and by the nursing staff. These questions will help us know more about you so that we can better serve your needs. Please be assured that your answers and medical information are always kept strictly confidential - only authorized staff has access to it.

You will be asked to sign several forms, including consent for treatment, assignment of insurance benefits and acceptance of financial responsibility. Any deposit that may be required is payable at this time, unless sufficient arrangements have been made in advance.

Please be sure to arrive at the time you were asked to, so that we can take care of all your admission needs efficiently.

Forms to bring - Bring your insurance identification cards (such as Blue Cross, Medicare or Medicaid), and your insurance claim forms, if you have them. (Please note that Thomas does not accept Carelink Medicaid or CAMC Blue Cross.)

If you have Advance Directives, please present copies of them at the time of your admission.

Medication - While you are a patient, your physician will prescribe any medications that you will need, and this will be dispensed by our Pharmacy. You do not need to bring any medications from home. You should bring a list of medications you have been taking regularly, and include all the information on each prescription label.

During your Stay - You will need only small personal items during your stay here. While hospital gowns are furnished, you may bring your own pajamas or nightgowns, robe and slippers. You may bring an electric razor or hairdryer, but other electric appliances are discouraged. Any appliances you do bring must be inspected and approved by the maintenance or security personnel.

Valuables - Because we cannot be responsible for your valuables during your stay, it is best to leave them at home. If that isn't possible, we can arrange for your valuables to be deposited in the hospital safe.

Financial Service - Thomas Memorial Hospital is committed to providing, without discrimination, medically necessary care for emergency medical conditions to individuals regardless of their ability to pay or their eligibility under the Hospital's financial aid policy. Thomas Memorial Hospital wants prospective patients and local community agencies to know that Thomas Memorial Hospital has a financial aid policy that is consistent with the mission and values of the Hospital and takes into account each patient's ability to contribute to the cost of his or her care.
