Radiation Therapy
The Thomas Cancer Center is pleased to offer oncology patients Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). It is an advanced method of radiotherapy utilizing sophisticated computer driven equipment to continuously adjust the degree of radiation intensity. This method allows maximum dose delivery to the tumor while limiting exposure to the surrounding healthy tissues.
The detailed treatment plans are derived from 3D models generated from Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. The plans, which are developed by the Radiation Oncologist and meticulously entered into the system by a Dosimetrist, allow a very detailed level of customization to meet the needs of the individual case. This highly customizable treatment method results in fewer adverse side effects than associated with traditional radiation therapy.
